Port Augusta - Woomera

Well today, we start the circle that takes us north to Darwin before heading across to Broome, down the West Coast and the across the Nullarbor.

We did not drive that far, only about 200 kilometres and stopped at Woomera to see what this country town had to offer. What was once obviously a thriving area is now little more than what appeared to be a ghost town with very few people around in the streets. There has been an obvious attempt to beautify the area with walk ways and landscaping around the streets.

I am not sure what now keeps this town going, but the Department of Defence still does some work there. There are two museums in memory of the rocket launches in the area with a rocket display in the street. It was interesting to see and wonder what the township must have been like in its prime.

There is a small supermarket, with a chemist inside that services the township. Prices were not too bad but choice was very limited.

The excitement for the day was certain supposed adults playing on the swings in the centre of town, quite embarrassing for those watching as there was a lot of squealing and laughing. No names, but one mother and one grandmother were involved in this scene.

While it was interesting to see once, it is not a place that would be on top of the list to return to. Further down is Roxby Downs and I think that there are more services here.

Nothing much else happened today and so it was an early night for everyone. The caravan park was clean, but nothing special.

One good thing today was that I fixed the GPS by downloading a patch from the distributor. I can now see where I am going again.
