Alice Springs Day 2

Another quiet morning, before heading off to do some sightseeing.

We visited the Royal flying Doctor Base and learnt a little about the great work that these people do. I hope that we do not have to use their services on this trip, but have great regard for what they do.

On our tour, we were told that there is a waitlist for people wanting to use join the RFDS and this is a good thing. They cover a fair amount of Australia, doing emergency work, transfer of patients, clinics in remote areas and so much more. With more and more people travelling on the roads, they area also more and more in demand. The RFDS is funded by the government but also relies heavily on donations from the public to keep flying in the air.

We picked up two new family members here as well, John the flying bear and Dawn the nurse bear. John after the founder and Dawn, the lady who officially opened the RFDS.

Nothing much else today, time to rest and recuperate!

Love the blog, guys, keep it up, Stu. Hope you've enjoyed the more relaxed pace of the past couple of days. You've already covered plenty of ground...
I'm on holidays in one more day - yay - and panto is looking better and better with each practice, but there's just 4 more rehearsals until the show opens! Sorry you guys are going to miss it, but I guess drama queen Michelle is someone you're already VERY familiar with.
Love Shelley.

Hi Stuart and family,
I have been reading your blog and it has happily reminded me of our journey to the centre a couple of years ago and how fantastic that trip was. We certainly enjoyed the 'valley' walk and felt it was exhilarating to say the least. In fact, the whole trip was fantastic but considerably less ambitious! Stuart, thanks (I think), the contract went through and I am now tied to the staff room trying to do all those things I happily ignored as a sessional. Still, I daresay that will be the last thing on your mind and rightly so! Keep enjoying your (one of your) trips of a lifetime. kindest, Ritchie
