After a fairly early start we were off to Kings Canyon resort for a couple of nights to experience one of our first big walks for the trip.
We turned right off the Lasseter Highway and the GPS had no idea where we were, in fact it did not even register the road we were travelling on. Another lesson, make sure you carry a map with you as back up to modern technology, it may not always work when you need it. It was not that we did not know where we were going, but it is great for telling you how long it will take to get to the destination.

We arrived just after lunch and found our site, it had a million dollar view of the surrounding mountains. It would have to be one of the best sites that we have experienced in Caravan Park anywhere we have been.
No reception on any phones here, we are cut off from the outside world at last!
It is a very big caravan park but is well serviced by toilets and showers. You really need to come prepared to a place like this as food was certainly at a premium price. It pays to come stocked up when heading to a place like this, otherwise you will pay for it. Much to our surprise, the only shop closed at 7:00pm so there was nothing on offer it you realised late that you had run out of anything.
After setting up, we headed off to Kings Canyon to complete the easy walk that took you along the base area of the canyon. The scenery was spectacular and enjoyed by all. It was an easy hour walk, but was a warm up for tomorrow, a much harder tougher walk.
To walk though a canyon like this was really amazing, the high cliff walls were changing in colour as sunset came closer. This will be the first of many times that we will be amazed by this great land God has created for us to enjoy.

On arrival at Kings Canyon Resort, you are warned about the local dingoes and the fact that they roam the park at night looking for food and shoes. Even the toilets and showers have a gate that has to be used after sunset to stop them from entering the facility. They come in from the surrounding bush and wonder through the park once it gets dark. It did not take long for us to see the first dingo, the first of many, but Josh was not keen about staying outside to see them.
We sat and looked at the stars for a while. There were thousands and thousands of them. I am sure that there is not this many at home, especially where we live.

Enjoy the majesty of the red centre. There is nothing like it. Clear skys, cold nights and the most beautiful red rocky mountains. I was last in Kings Canyon when Tryphena was only 15 months old and we camped at the base of the canyon. Just an awesome place. Enjoy the walk up the mountain. It is truely amazing.

Wow, it sounds spectacular! How long is that walk you are going on. when i went away we went on a 21km bush walk. we dipped our hats in the creek when we were hot. is it freezing at night? My Mum and Dad said that they left a tub of water outside and when they woke up it was frozen. you should try it. Mum and Dads favorite place in the whole of Australia is Kings Canyon. i told my dad that your GPS broke and he said that there aren't many roads to choose from to follow but i realise now that it would be awesome to know how far you have come and how many more amazing km you have to travell.

Hi all,
You are really quite the travellers now. Hitting the trails, etc. How are the legs holding out? Finding muscles you didn't know you had? I am envious of you in your summer clothing. Love the hat Chels! Still in your Collingwood jumper Josh.
Good crowd in for Jim's funeral yesterday. Nice to see John Collinson, Michael (piano) and Merv. Also good to see uncle Dick. Nick had 2nd ever marching and playing experience! Miss you all but good to see you enjoying your travels.
